Clay Desiccant (Bentonite)

Bentonite desiccant clay is ground and processed from the naturally occurring mineral calcium aluminosilicate.

It is mainly used as an inexpensive and effective static desiccant when packed into sachets, from where it will adsorb moisture from enclosed spaces, to prevent corrosion and mould growth. It remains physically unchanged when dry and when saturated with water.

It meets BS7529:1991 standards of dryness and adsorption capacity.

Standard sachets include 0.5 unit, 1 unit, 2 unit, 4 unit, 8 unit, 16 unit and 32 unit weights, where the desiccant unit is defined as the weight of clay which will adsorb, at 250C,
3 grams of water vapour at 20% Relative Humidity (R.H.) and 6 grams at 40% R.H.
This definition comes from both DIN 55473 and MIL-D-3464E specifications.

The sachets can be packed into both non-woven and Tyvek outer bags which meet respectively, Type I and Types I and II classifications of MIL-D-3464E.
